Dxun – Breach CI-004: Lights Out – HM – Defeated!

According to StarParse, it took us 17 tries to clear the Lights Out encounter. That doesn’t seem so bad, honestly. We still pugged a DPS, but Yothann stepped in as a healer for us and that worked perfectly, especially because he now has the HM achievement before the SM!

Also, our clear of Red on the way to Lights Out was a much cleaner kill than our initial kill was last week. Wouldn’t it be cool if we managed to clear the Nature of Progress HM before NiM gets released!

The Pack Leader Down … Delusional Life Finds A Way!
    Guide / Walkthru

We’re still pugging one or two spots a week (Join Now!), but we clear Hardmode content anyway! Our first legitimate “progression” kill in SWTOR: Onslaught.

Progression kill … now that’s a phrase I’ve not heard in a long time … a long time.

Furthermore, not only had no one present cleared Hardmode Red, we didn’t have a full grasp of the fight’s mechanics when we won. Not sure if that’s a credit to our brute force methods, or a critique of the fight design. Either way, it was a lot of fun to have Bravo tossing heals at us again, even if it was a limited engagement.

I think the video linked above is the only one on YouTube that explains the fight well. Other videos are just like archival records of teams’ kills, or they are instructional but not very interesting or entertaining. I was going for both. I hope it gets some views /crossedfingers.

First Full Clear Dxun: The Nature of Progress
    * Not An Instructional

We completed our first clear of new operations content! Dxun, The Nature of Progress, is an interesting Jurassic Park style of raid. We went in sight-unseen, except for our trusty guide Holtar, who himself had only cleared the place one time.

The attached video is about 50% victory, and 50% lol-fail, so please disregard it if you’re here looking for tips and strategies. Furthermore, it’s been a while since I recorded raid kills … so … some things I forgot:

    – to make sure the video records my mic. When you hear people laugh randomly, it’s because my hilarious comments weren’t captured; and,

    – to even record the final two kills.

I produced the video primarily for the team to enjoy and get a laugh from. I hope you all do!

    8 Players – 16 Lightsabers – 2 Farewells
    8 Sents vs Eternity Vault

Tonight was the final raid with the full complement of Honeybadgers. Eldirar and Auri are both taking their talents to land of Real Life First. To say that we’ll miss them, or that things won’t be the same without them, is to ludicrously understate the extent of our feelings. Who now will rescue and heal us? Who now will occupy the special quantum superposition of second sentinel and top comedian simultaneously?

To celebrate our years together, we decided to do something we always meant to do: an All-Watchman team of 8 through an operation. The video here is a rough draft of the final accounting, and farewell.

We dearly hope to see you guys back when the content warrants it. Fare well until then, animator of digital puppets and captain of googley mysterios!

    Gods Storymode: Cleared

After a setback of several weeks due to turnover at the tank slot, and Inigo’s ascendance to our esteemed new tank, we finally cleared Izax. Maybe we can finally start making progress in HM? /crossed fingers!

Also, maybe someone can explain Scyva’s role in all this? She wanted us dead, then she wanted us left alone, then she wanted us dead again, then she wanted to help us defeat Izax? The writer in charge of the operation’s narrative bits has a confused relationship with an unstable mother and is exploring those themes here? /confused.

  • Scyva

    Scyva

    Scyva Downed (But Not Out?)

Izax comes out in a few weeks, and we just now got around to downing Scyva. Auri guided us through trash, we spent 30 minutes hilariously sniper-diving into whirlpools, and all in all, we had fun.

After getting Chet up to speed, we’re ready for Izax!

  • Satele Shan: Now Serving

    Satele Shan: Now Serving

We All Arrive on Satele Shan

… and other innuendoey phrases. The Harbinger will never again crash, uttering each time “this hurts you.” West Coast and APAC players will never again enjoy a playable ping. It could be worse, though. Instead of arriving on Satele Shan, we could easily have been doing it on the Hot Prospect, which … what does that even mean?

It’s an all new server, with all new people, and lots of new possibilities. Let’s hope the influx of new players is a good thing for us all (is it Harby-centric to think of it as an INflux?). Our raid team continues to suffer attrition due to the special combination of slow, uninteresting ops content releases, and real-life factors. So, a newly infused pool of players on the server can only be a good thing.

The third boss in Gods will be out now. The piecemeal approach to content releases makes it hard to sustain interest in raiding guilds like ours, especially because of the gap between the difficulty settings. Storymode is borderline boring; Hardmode is basically Nightmare. Raid groups that enjoy a challenge, but don’t want to work part time on raids, have no content to enjoy right now.

  • Esne & Aivela

    Esne & Aivela

Esne & Aivela: Windshield Wipers of … *DOOM* … ?

We cleared the new ops bosses in Gods with our 3rd tier alts the first raid night after the patch. The graphics are amazing. The mechanics are interesting. The difficulty is … well … we didn’t know what we were doing and we 1-shot it. Like, we’re good, but, even on storymode that should have been harder.

It would be interesting to see how this works on Hardmode, but with roster turnover due to Real Life and players’ understandable frustration/boredom with HM Tyth, we’re a long way from seeing the new fight in a difficulty level higher than “sleepwalk.”

On the plus side, we can now customize Lana, and a new Manaan stronghold.

Nearly a year since anything noteworthy of an update, but finally it’s here: (maybe) the end of Knights of the Single-Player Star Wars Experience!

Storymode Tyth is cake, and Veteran Mode Tyth requires actual teamwork, learning, and gear. Let’s see how quickly we reclaim our progression mindset. Won’t be long, I’d wager! Exciting (like actually exciting, not the kind of excitement that comes from Command Crates … ).

    Vorgath Kill: Tank PoV

After a few weeks’ worth of tuning, we finally got Nightmare Firebrand & Stormcaller, exactly as we drew it up. We said “when we hit enrage, the only players who matter are the rDPS, so tune all efforts to get them safely under the shield.” Done.

Then we pressed forward and cleared Vorgath after only a few pulls total. Best part of the Vorgath kill is all the communication between the players. Coordinating interrupts, clarifying fight mechanics on a pull where we still got the kill. Love it. Not a pretty kill, but killin ain’t meant to be purty.

Last week, we cleared up through Torque in Hardmode Ravagers, and our kill was one for the instructional video series. Screenshot to the right shows dead players and purple loot. We make wipes look fabulous!

Then this week, we had two players absent for Real Life First reasons, and without missing a beat, Adam and Morgan stepped in, stepped up, and slapped Kephess’s leathery face … in the face!

  • Temple HM 4/5

    Temple HM 4/5

    Temple of Sacrifice HM: 4/5!!

It was months since our last trip to Yavin 4, but we knocked out the first two bosses like we had cleared them just last week. Then we got our first kill on Hardmode Lurker (post-nerf /sadface)! We were a little worried about Commanders, since we only squeaked by (nerfed) Underlurker, and Commanders was supposed to be hard. But then … Commanders was super easy … so … go figure.

Emboldened by our convincing win over the Commanders, we decided to do something heroic. HM Revan in 3.0 was beyond us, because we couldn’t get past Lurker. So at the time, we never studied Revan HM. Fast forward to the current expansion, and leading up to tonight, we focused our preparation on Underlurker and Commanders. But in the REAL WORLD, heroes don’t get to practice their heroics! So we decided to just attack Revan, and try to win purely by thinking our our feet. “Discard” was our MT’s reward.

Next time, Revan! Next time … /shakesfist!

All the 224 gear we’ve obtained thanks to the “Featured Hardmode” scheme should make these Hardmodes quick and easy next time they come around.

  • First Fika

    First Fika

    Smashing Soa and Breaking Ice!

Our inaugural Fika Night mobilized a large group of Initiates and Old-Timers for an assault on the Eternity Vault, and on ignorance itself! The icebreaker for the night asked players to reveal to the group one interesting factoid about themselves … anytime their player needed to respawn. For any reason.

Plus, half the raid group had never been to EV before on any difficulty setting. So there was a lot of learning. We learned fight mechanics. We also learned about spouses, children, “how we met” stories, and learned that a bunch of people in our guild serve their country in the military. And everyone who didn’t already know, also learned that one of us likes to talk a lot. All in all, it was a great night.

    3.0 Hardmodes: 2/5 Each!

We didn’t know the 3.2 patch would nerf Hardmodes Bulo and Sword Squadron, but it sweetens our victory to know we got Sword Squadron down on our final raid pre-nerf. As it turns out, that was our cleanest kill of the night. Everything else involved half a dead team (or more) at the end.

    Shadow of Revan Storymode Ops!

We hit the enrage on Underlurker, but nevertheless managed to 2-shot him. Better gear and better rotations will make that guy a cinch. The next two boss encounters were easily managed as well. We’ll farm these for the next few weeks while we get our gear right, master alternate disciplines, and take on HM in the coming weeks!

  • Revan’s Shadow Descends

    Revan’s Shadow Descends

    First Raids of 3.0!

In Delusion’s first raids of 3.0, Storymodes of The Ravagers and the Temple of Sacrifice were on the menu, and we brought hungering appetites! At the conclusions of 3.0’s first week, the guild has cleared all of the The Ravagers on Storymode, and gotten up to Underlurker in the Temple of Sacrifice on Storymode.

Honeybadgers barely survived their kill of Quartermaster Bulo, and then we 1-shot the final encounter with the captains sight-unseen, with no foreknowledge of the mechanics since Dulfy doesn’t have a guide for that fight yet. Simple fight, and good teamwork. Smokin Wookies cleared up to Underlurker tonight as well. These operations were both pretty fun. Looking forward to Hardmodes!

  • NiM TFB: 4/5

    NiM TFB: 4/5

    Nightmare TfB: 4/5!

While JWI marched through Nightmare modes in Dread Fortress and Dread Palace, a reformed Honeybadgers squad cut its teeth on Nightmare TFB. Welcoming Toombs and Eldirar to their ranks, the team got as close to earning Parthena an Ancient Hypergate as 14% on the final boss, but we would get no closer before the release of 3.0.

We’ll never forget our Night 2 one-shot of the Dread Masters, or Monkey’s Last Stand on Night 3, or that first Operator IX kill. This was also a tribute to Delusion’s unity across raid groups, as special honors go out to a Starstryderz-led Team Revan for their aid and success clearing the first few bosses for a few weeks to give HB more time on the Terror. Maybe sometime we’ll go back on a lark and finish off the hentai horror once and for all!

  • JWI Nightmare Tribute

    JWI Nightmare Tribute

    JWI Nightmare Tribute

JWI spent six months ahead of 3.0’s release diligently working at the vanguard of Delusion’s Nightmare Raiding scene. They bested NiM Bestia in the Dread Palace, and NiM Nefra, Draxus, Grob’thok, and Corruptor Zero of the Dread Fortress. What’s even more remarkable about these achievements is the 2-nights per week maximum they raid, and the rotation of players who participate. Guilds far more hardcore achieved far less after investing twice the hours with a rigidly static 8-man crew. JWI’s proud efforts deserved a tribute.

From left to right, they are: Weems, Azazel, Mirne, Mozez, Toombs (Crouching), Feench (on the Dreadful Throne), Flyte, Parthena, Athena (crouching), Kundera, John’e, Bissava, McMahon, Spiffia, Monkey.

So in honor of these achievements, Parthena used the week prior to the release of 3.0 to gather all the regular and substitute members of JWI into his home to celebrate amid the decorative fruits of their labors. On the backdrop of their holocrons, datacrons, thrones, and trophies, they sat together probably for the first time collectively, in one place, a super team.

    Dread Fortress(NiM): 4/5!

There were times when it felt like it was all a grand conspiracy to keep the Revan Holostatue fed, and there were whispers of those who receive a cut from all its takings. But all manner of pipe-smashing, beam-shooting, and add-spawning villains must fall before those with grandiose delusions. Eventually. Now, one more adversary stands in our way – Brontes. Will the delusional prevail?

    Dread Fortress(NiM): 1/5!

A new raid tier and the monstrosities in Dread Fortress are now tougher, meaner and hit so hard that our tanks are making sure the squishies take some of the pain too! But what’s a little pain-sharing between friends? We eventually brought down the lumbering hulk that was Nefra right as he got impatient and threw a tantrum at us. His rage did not last long, nor did we in the next encounter. But that’s a story for another day.

We may not remember what percentage to stop or start DPS … we may not always jump like bunnies to validate proper position with the server … our intrepid raid leader may not even remember to unmute himself … and the Dread Council may try to cheat its way to survival … but none of that serves as sufficient protection for a group of bosses that we’ve been tailing since Belsavis. Let’s all hope they stay dead now, and that we have some new Big Bad’s on the horizon!

And congrats to Monkey on the guild’s first 78 MH. May it bring many pew pews!

    Dread Fortress (HM): Cleared!

On Valentine’s Day, the amourous adventurers of Just Wing It had a date with Brontes, the beautiful and aloof leader of Dread Fortress. But on this special day, we were determined to take her out. We have been courting her for weeks but she has spurned all our advances, breaking our hearts with deadly lightning that only a Sith lady could. However, undaunted and blessed by the love that’s overflowing the universe, we breached the lovely Brontes’ defences and fought our way into her heart and she finally lay down, exhausted.

    Hardmode DF & DP: 4/5!

It’s been a while since our last update, but not because the guild hasn’t be busy – the webmaster has been lazy! Bad webmaster – bad!

With the release of Oricon, we moved quickly through Storymode Dread Fortress and Dread Palace, and now our raid teams are up to 4/5 in each location in Hardmode. It’s an exciting time to be in the guild right now, as we continue to grow through new applicants and as new content for the game continues to come out. The Starfighter patch came out to mixed reviews, but it’s good to see Bioware continue to produce things that players want. Now … if we could just get some new character stories, this game would be perfect!

  • HM SnV: Cleared

    HM SnV: Cleared

    Scum & Villainy HM: Cleared!

Picture this: We call “last attempt.” At the end of this final attempt, the boss is enraged. In that state, each of his hits strike for half or more a tank’s life. The last man standing is the tank. He’s at half life. Boss’s health is under 1k. Next hit wins. If it’s the boss, it’s over for the night. If it’s the tank, we win. The margin of error was that slim. It took a while, but we got him. Our closest failure was a wipe at about 17k health. Our victory was an even narrower margin on the other side. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a narrower margin.

The other good news from this is that it was a guild effort, with elements from all three progression teams in play at once. This success belongs to JWI, but members of the other two teams were present and will be able to leverage their experience to maximum advantage next week with their respective teams. Stryak will be on farm in no time!

As is guild tradition, the first kill of a progression boss was best achieved with Silverknight dead on the ground. There could be no better omen for the ongoing success of the guild! Granted, EC HM is not the spring chicken of operations in SWTOR today, but we should all be proud to have achieved this success with so few total hours invested. Real life first, always.

One night, three progression teams, three battles with Kephess, one victory, eight Nightscythes, and a hell of a good time.

Big thanks to Mat-lar for stepping in on the kill without much prep to cover for Shenlu, and here’s to big hopes for next week. Shenlu will likely be in excellent company when he and Team HoneyBadger both get the keys to brand spanking new Nightscythes! And watch out for Team Just Wing It. So yeah, the new Progression Team killed Toth and Zorn on hard for the first time in an *all-guild* group. Delusions is no stranger to Campaign Legs and Bracers, but it’s been a while since we could say for certain when we went in that our hard work would pay off for the guild in some way more concrete than “good experience” and “fun times.”

The super duper cool part of this is that we ended the fight with 3 dead bad guys and 8 live good guys. That’s a solid improvement over this team’s previous successes, and even an improvement over the work done in months past around here. Great job guys!

Iwee was a huge help, and a second week with Flyleaf’s amazing heals helped make this run very successful. We need to start looking at Kephess-Hard videos!

And look! Silverknight survived a progression kill.

    Explosive Conflict (Hard): 2/4 Defeated!

Our search for a permanent, high quality healer goes on. After several weeks pugging healers, The Outlaw Doc Holiday came in and healed like a real pro. Friendly and mature and highly skilled. Thanks!

Continuing a fine tradition, one dating back to WoW, we stand a very high chance of success on progression bosses when Silverknight (Mayalena) is dead before the end of the fight, and our 7/1 raid was no different.

We have struggled for a few weeks on Toth & Zorn (Hard), because we have no consistency at our second-healer position. And despite that, as well as hitting the enrage timer at around 3% left on Zorn, we succeeded.

Of course, both tanks were dead by the time handler came down, but some seriously pro play from Tallaan, Kaylah, McMahon (Juilin), and Doc made tanks irrelevent. Nice job guys.

From there, we went on to down Firebrand and Stormcaller without too much trouble. We hit the enrage timer there too, but that’s okay. Everyone lived. Except the pilots in the tanks. Go go campaign loots!

It wasn’t pretty – but we acrue no style points in Story Mode, so who cares? Yes, that’s the OT and raid leader, dead. Along with 4 of the other 7 people on the raid. It doesn’t get much closer than that. But as athletes and coaches will say, an ugly win is still win.

After that, it only took 4 attempts to perfect our execution. Story Mode is DONE! On to Hardmode.

As an aside, this kill was the last time we had a chance to play with Shift, a beloved guild member who we all hope to see back with us one day. We miss you.

    Soa (Hard): Defeated!

Sure, we could have done this months ago. We had better things to do, however, than spend hours trying for that one perfect attempt where the pre-1.2-patch randomness and bugginess would not hold us back.

So we’ve been farming KP instead. We have lots of Rakata Main Hands, and no Rakata Chest Pieces. Well, except for the two we got tonight.

With 1.2 fixing Soa’s bugs, we were able to down him easy in Hard mode. We almost had him on Nightmare mode, just for fun. Maybe next time.

Toth, Zorn, & EC Tanks: Defeated!

Oh yeah … we also managed to progress a little farther on our Progression Run tonight. We’ve got the first two encounters down in Explosive Conflict, Denova, on Story Mode. That feels good.

The tanks gave us quite a bit of trouble, but that was mainly because we had some confusion on what the boss attacks do and how to manage them. A little experience though finally carried the day.

It was our first night raiding KP Hard, and look what we did. We moved from the first trash pull to looting Rakata Main Hands in 2.5 hours, one-shotting all the bosses along the way.

The trash gave us more trouble than the bosses, because we have no stealth-CC of any kind. So we had to mop up swarms of murder droids.

    Eternity Vault (Normal): Defeated!

Our first full clear of an operation in SWTOR! For every wipe we suffered at the hands of poor play and learning curve, we suffered twice as many wipes to the bugs. Wow, is this place buggy.

However, in the end, Delusions > bugs, so there!
